September 13th-18th you may have noticed on the Golf Channel a local Lake Oswego High School golfer competing in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. Tya Seth, a Junior at LOHS earned a chance to play in this prestigious event.

IMG_6908“I had the opportunity of playing in The Nature Valley First Tee Open due to the years that I have been involved with The First Tee of Greater Portland,” Seth said. Not everyone involved in The First Tee has a chance to compete in the big event. “The main portion of the process was writing 5 essays regarding how The First Tee has impacted my life by the way I represent myself, as well as helping me overcome obstacles.” Other pieces included submittal of her report card from school, a log book containing community service hours, tournament scores, and an interview on why she should be selected to the event.

The Lake Oswego teen was paired with Professional Rob Spittle, who Seth describes as “one of the kindest people I have ever met.”

Seth describes the experience as something she will remember for a lifetime, “due to the amazing people that I met throughout the week including juniors, professionals, amateurs and other The First Tee staff. It is not so much about playing Pebble Beach that I will remember, but more so the connections that I made and understanding how golf truly influences life in the most positive manner.”

KPTV produced a segment on Tya Seth and her journey to The First Tee Open. You can watch that video here.

The Lake Oswego High School Junior, Seth will join a growing and competitive girls golf program that finished 3rd in state in the 2016 campaign.
