Lauren Thies, Head Coach

Lauren brings years of both coaching and swimming experience to Lakers Swimming!  As an age group athlete competing for the Multnomah Athletic Club, Lauren competed at the national and international level (she still holds Oregon Swimming records and an OSAA record today)!  She went on to compete for Stanford and University of Texas as an All-American.  After she graduated, Lauren coached club and high school swimming before the swimming bug bit her again and she resumed training, remaking the National Team and competing at Pan-Ams in Brazil.  After Lauren hung up her suit again, she didn’t stray far from the pool, working as a TYR regional sales representative for many years.  Lauren coaches three squads on the developmental & performance level at Lake Oswego Swim Club.  She’s a private swim instructor at Stafford Hills Club.  Her favorite element of coaching high school swimming is having fun with your peers while learning lifelong skills, in and out of the water.  Lauren’s interests outside of the pool include cooking, baking, the outdoors and neighborhood walks with her boyfriend, Eric & dog, Hank.  She has two nieces that are aspiring water babies!

Ka Shawna Bell, Assistant Coach

In addition to being an Assistant Coach for the LO High School swim team for the previous two seasons, Ka Shawna is also a USA Swimming certified coach, WSI certified and coached with the Woburn Boys and Girls Club in Woburn, MA prior to moving back to Oregon two years ago. She is a swim instructor at Stafford Hills Club and is currently working toward a degree in Exercise Science. A gymnast in her youth, she has extended her love of athletics in the swimming arena and is passionate about helping kids attain their full potential; in and out of the water. Ka Shawna is mom to four swimmers and is learning how to swing dance in her precious time off!

Danica Gazzigli, Assistant Coach

This is my third year working with the Pathways Program at LOHS. This is my second year coaching the swim team and my third year coaching overall. Besides swimming, I’ve coach cross country and track here at LOHS.  I am a Lake Oswego High School Alumni- graduated in 2011 and a Kent State University Alumni- graduated in 2015. I am engaged and getting married next summer.

Geoff Marsden, Assistant Coach

Geoffrey Marsden is the 6th grade PE teacher at Lake Oswego Junior High. Geoff, his wife Jenny and his three boys, Mason, Finn & Sawyer recently moved to Oregon from Arizona where he was a PE teacher and coached many sports. Coach Marsden’s passion for swimming comes from being around or in the water from a very early age. He grew up near the beaches in Northern California and swam on teams starting at the age of five, through high school, college and continues to swim as much as he can for US Masters swimming. Coach Marsden has coached swimming at the high school and age group level for over 10 years and has coached many other sports including wrestling, baseball, cross country, lacrosse, track & field and volleyball. He is looking forward to starting a new chapter in his coaching career at Lake Oswego High School. GO LAKERS!
