Lakers News · LOHS Athletics Update (November 17, 2020)

I hope everyone is having a great week and you and your families are staying healthy as we near the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you for your continued patience as we continue to navigate these difficult times.

As you may remember, back at the start of September when we resumed athletic activity here at LOHS, we were very careful to reopen, with the metrics initially needing to be no more than 35 cases per 100,000 and a test positivity rate of no more than 5%. In the time since, we somewhat lessened those restrictions based on the guidance from the Governor and the OHA. Fortunately, we’ve been able to offer athletics while students from numerous other schools and districts haven’t seen the field or gym since March.

Unfortunately, the most recent COVID metrics were released earlier today and the news was not good. The Clackamas County metrics jumped significantly to 284.6 cases per 100,000 and a test positivity rate of 11.8%. As a result of these latest metrics and trends, we are making the difficult decision to now suspend all in-person athletic activity here at LOHS (indoor and outdoor) effective immediately. We are doing so to help keep our student-athletes and coaches safe and healthy. We also do not want contribute to the increasing metrics in the county and state.

We understand how disappointing this decision is. The opportunities our coaches have been providing for our student-athletes have brought much hope and joy for everyone involved. We are so very appreciative of the work everyone has been doing to make these opportunities safe and successful. We will continue to monitor things through the remainder of this week and the Thanksgiving holiday. We should have some new information no later than Monday, November 30th as to how we are going to move forward and what in-person athletic opportunities may or may not be allowed.

Again, thank you for your continued patience and support of Lake Oswego Athletics. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need further information. Go Lakers!
